Brown is NOT my color.
I can do anything for 9 months, right? This is my story and journal to becoming an Ironman. 2.4 mile swim + 112 mile bike + 26.2 mile run = 140.6

Mental Workout
Sometimes life just gets in the way of training and
I'm certainly learning that this week.
Working 10-12 hour shifts on your feet for most of those shifts is
starting to wear on all of us.
However,
I'm trying to find the positive in all of this despite not getting my
swim, bike or run workouts in.
This has been a mentally, physically and emotionally draining week,
but it is teaching me that I can stay positive in the worst of times, much like
I know I will stay positive up to the last second of the day of Ironman.

A Short History Lesson
The idea for the original Ironman Triathlon was created by John Collins, a US Navy Commander, when a debate arose over which athletes were the most fit - swimmers, runners or bicyclists. Apparently, he thought it would be a good idea to combine three long-distance competitions -- the Waikiki Roughwater Swim, the Around-Oahu Bike Race, and the Honolulu Marathon. Keep in mind that the bike race was originally a TWO day event and was actually 115 miles. The start of the bike race was changed to coincide with the swim start/finish and the run race start and that shaved off a whopping 3 miles. It was decided that "whoever finishes first, we'll call him the Iron Man." On February 18, 1978 fifteen men started the race, TWELVE finished. Each of the racers had their own support crew to supply water, food, and encouragement during the event. Gordon Haller was named the first IRONMAN, completing the course in 11 hours 46 minutes 58 seconds.
And now you know...

Masochist
Definition:
An abnormal condition in which pleasure is
derived from pain or from humiliation.
I guess this pretty much sums up my desire to complete an Ironman?
Thanks to Kathy Peterson, I have a new torture device.
At least that's what she calls it.
I call it a blessing and I guess that's why she calls me a masochist.
Although the foam roller creates some discomfort, I know it's good for me.
Thanks Kathy, I owe you one!

The Crawl
I will most likely look like these two women when I finish,
only I promise I will have on more clothing!
Seriously, I hope I have one tenth of their DRIVE to finish!

Looking For Motivation
According to John Collins
Ironman Founder
Ironman has always been about finishing what you started,
about being able to do what you set out to do,
maybe not as fast as the person in front of you,
but certainly faster than the person that never started.
This event is about our inner need to explore our limits.

Check Out These Abs!
They are NOT mine, but a girl can dream.
I was thinking today while I was "shredding" with Jillian Michaels,
it would be nice to have great abs.
But alas,
I'm a junk food junkie.
